During this time many craftsmen and designers still misinterpret the sluggish situation in Bali, particularly economic sector to stop their activities. “In this sluggish situation, craftsmen and designers should take advantage from economic crisis to create new designs,” the Director of Design Development Organization (DDO) Bali, I Made Raka Merta, stated on Monday.
According to Metra, the sluggish condition of market should be seen as a means to develop their creativities. In spare times, they should employ their creativity to create the latest designs. The latest designs will open new market opportunities.
“If economic crisis made market less promising, after economy is recovered, new designs will received positive responses from customers. It is a better for us to make use our spare time creating new designs rather than daydreaming or regretting,” he emphasized.
He uttered craftsmen and designers in creating their works need to get accustom with the habit of finding inspirations and information completely. This is important to create new designs that appropriate with market trend. One of solution is to make use of the latest advance technology, namely Internet. As well as to communicate and share information among fellow craftsmen and designers, they can get broaden their insights especially in designing. Internet should be a familiar friend for craftsmen and designers. If they do not understand how to surf Internet, they should learn actively. Otherwise, their designs will be out-of-date.
“Due to the importance of Internet, government should aid craftsmen and designers in learning how to take benefit from this media. A continual training will make they know how to operate computer and to use Internet gradually,” he stated while hoping that craftsmen and designers can create brand new designs which are able to meet the demands of global world. One design can only sustain for a very short term. Therefore, they are expected to create designs, which last for a very long time. The trend tendency should be observed continuously. They have to obtain as a many as information from print media, television, to Internet.
