| Balinese handicrafts interested by foreign costumers |
Several handicrafts made by Balinese craftsmen are prospective in local and foreign markets. Up to these days, many foreign and local costumers are interested with Balinese handicrafts. However, not all craftsmen use local brand of Bali, but normally they use a famous label from foreign countries to attract the costumers’ demand, a number of exporters and craftsmen admitted.
An exporter, I Ketut Dharma Siadja explained recently, using local brand of Bali in some handicraft becomes a strategy of crafsmen to offer their products. This strategy is very effective, because products with local brand may attract the costumers’ demands.
“However, this to be considering, foreigners who know Bali is people have ever visit Bali. Many foreigners have never come to Bali and they not become the target of handicraft products with local brand,” he said. He admitted, Up to these days handicraft face tight competition in international markets. Several countries, like Vietnam, China, India, Thailand, and Malaysia still become biggest competitors of Balinese products.
Other craftsmen, Made Dar, said his party has several buyers from foreign countries. Almost all of them are used the local brand of Bali in their products.
“I asked to our buyers from Japan and French, why they must apply local brand in their products?, they answered, because many buyers in Japan and French have visit Bali. They seen Balinese craftsmen are very creative and have hight motifation to create some products, this make the buyer interested to use local label in their products.
