| Bali is a new potential market for jewelry business |
Bali always becomes a potential region to market various products including jewelry. Jewelry entrepreneurs smell the opportunity to increase their selling value in the island.
The jewelries offered vary in forms and price, range from the cheapest to the most expensive. One of jewelry traders, Imam Ropingi, met in the jewels and pearls exhibition held in Pasar Oleh-Oleh Bali, said generally the jewelries that do well in Bali were earrings and rings. The exhibition will take place at Pasar Oleh-Oleh Bali, Jalan Raya Kuta 88, Kuta from 8th until 18th of June.
“Rings decorated with large gemstone are mostly preferred by male customers, while earrings certainly becomes the favorite of female, teens and children,” he said.
Rings for male are sold with price starting from 100,000 rupiah, depend on the types of the decorative gemstones, size, and rings material. A pair of earrings, on the other hand, is sold with starting price of 75,000 rupiah. The touch of modification and creativity determines whether the customers like or dislike the jewelry items. The more up-to-date the physical form of the jewelry means more demand from the customers.
Does price really matter? Imam said, ”Whether the price is cheap or expensive depends upon the jewelry types. Customers who understand the jewelry quality and jewelry collectors certainly doesn’t make a fuss on the price,”
Another jewelry trader, M. Fathoni, said as well as gemstones, there is also a significant demand on pearls. The touch of creativity upon pearls in the form of various kinds of jewelries makes pearls have a high selling value. Jewelries with pearls make the wearers look elegant.
“Pearls are mostly shipped from Lombok. A set of pearl jewelries comprising necklace, earring, and ring can be sold from the starting price of 200,000 rupiah,” he said. Pearl earrings and rings are sold with price starting from 50,000 rupiah until above a hundred thousand rupiah. As well as local pearls, there are also imported ones shipped from Japan. The pearl prices vary depend on the form. The pearls with smoother surface are more expensive than pearls with rougher surface. After participating in exhibition held in Pasar Oleh-Oleh, the jewelry entrepreneurs will participate in exhibition held in conjunction with the 2006 Bali Art Festival held for the 28th time.
