| Bali’s export to ASEAN worth 640,501.25 US$ | The export value of various commodities from Bali in April 2006 to ASEAN countries is worth US$ 640,501.25. The value increases compared with previous months, like in March with value US$ 560,001.25 and in February 2006 with value US$ 368,877.26. It is also believed that there will be increase in May and subsequent months because many of ASEAN countries become importers of various commodities, especially Balinese-made handicrafts, according to the head of Foreign Trade division of Industry and Trade Office Province Bali, N.W. Kusumawathi, on Thursday in Denpasar.
Kusumawathi stated, based on the data collected by Industry and Trade Office, the export value of various Balinese-made commodities to ASEAN countries kept increasing. The value even reached US$ 704,950.03 in January 2006. The value was far higher compared with subsequent months as in January there was a raise in shipment quantity to the buyers who have ordered the products in advance. This meant the increase in export value was caused by order remains made by the buyers in prior months.
“That’s why it seems that the export value in January was very high compared with the subsequent months. It is predicted the export value in May reached the same amount as in January, because this period is where the time limit of products completion at the craftsmen level ends. Those commodities will be sent to exporters in June,” she stated.
From the overall value in January – April, it can be seen that the export value of Balinese-made products to ASEAN countries is worth US$ 2,274,329.79. She stated, Malaysia contributed the highest role, i.e. US$ 765,362.98, in increasing Bali’s export value, followed by Thailand $ 744,896.57, and Singapore with $ 621,570.63.
“The ASEAN country which contributed the lowest amount is Cambodia with $ 739.76 in the period January-April. This amount was derived from one shipment in March, while the other months were zero. Other ASEAN countries, like Myanmar contributing 3,350.11 dollar from shipment in February. Vietnam contributed $ 8,900.00 from shipment in February with $ 150.00 and April with $ 8,750.00 worth,” she stated.
Kusumawathi emphasized Malaysia was the biggest ASEAN countries which contributed in increasing the export value of various Balinese handicrafts, especially earthenware vessels, stone handicrafts, furniture, etc.[bisnis bali]
